Ballet Fantastique accepts Northwest, national, and international company audition applications throughout the year for company and apprentice/trainee positions. We seek dancers with strong technical proficiency and powerful artistry. A Vaganova background is a plus, though not required.

Our vision. In today's world, we believe that it is no longer enough to be “simply” a dance company in the mold of generations of dance companies gone before. Instead, Ballet Fantastique operates under the belief that companies must be powerfully energetic and versatile—committed to building new audiences for the arts—just as they are profoundly invested—committed to working together to do what it takes to bring world-class art into being. And so, we are artistically bold and unapologetically tenacious, carving new niches for our art and building passionate new audiences for dance in the process. We are refreshingly humble, recognizing that each of us is an essential and contributing member of the team who makes possible the work that we do. We have fierce artistic integrity, but we are also open. We strive to continuously improve.

NOW HIRING: National Audition Search: Male Company Soloist

Ballet Fantastique Contemporary Chamber Company is hiring a male soloist dancer for the 2013-2014 season for a full contract of 30 weeks of paid work including three new contemporary ballet premieres plus national/international touring as scheduled, with competitive pay by the week and benefits, including shoe allowance, physical therapy and massage assistance. The contract also includes additional opportunities for paid outreach and teaching work.

Competitive applicants will have strong classical and contemporary vocabularies, and confidence with pas de deux work. Applicants must be a US citizen (or hold a green card or work permit), and are preferably 5’9” and up.

Additional skills of interest (desired but not requisite): Choreography, arts education, arts administration, dance instruction (ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, pas de deux, and/or hip-hop).

Auditions

As a small company, every dancer on our roster plays an important role in our identity. We want to know who you are, what you have to contribute, and why you want to dance with Ballet Fantastique. Here's what we need from you:

Company Class Auditions

  • Resume with brief cover letter introducing yourself. Be sure to list variations (classical and contemporary) you have performed on your resume.
  • Completed Ballet Fantastique Audition Form (note: this is not yet enabled for computer entry—we're working on it for the future! Please print and complete the form by hand).
  • Dance photo (full-body; pose of your choice) and headshot photo.
  • Contact us » to schedule your company class audition and informal interview with Ballet Fantastique choreographer-producers Donna Marisa and Hannah Bontrager. NOTE: An in-person audition is preferred whenever possible.

DVD Audition Applications

  • Resume with brief cover letter introducing yourself. Be sure to list variations you have performed as a student dancer and (if available) a professional on your resume.
  • Completed Ballet Fantastique Audition Form (note: this is not yet enabled for computer entry—we're working on it for the future! Please print and complete the form by hand).
  • Dance photo (full-body photo; pose of your choice), and headshot photo.
  • DVD including basic barre and center work, including adagio, pirouettes, petit allegro, and grande allegro, set to classroom music. Women should also include pointe work. Also include between 1-3 performance variations, and choreographic samples, if available. The length is up to you, so show us your best work and a range of strengths. Audition application materials will not be returned.
