Spring 2018

Dear BFans,

I am a big fan of Ballet Fantastique, the Hult Center’s newest resident company and the first new arts organization to achieve that status in 10 years. The non-profit company, led by mother-daughter dynamos Donna and Hannah Bontrager, hasn’t lost one watt of energy since the day they moved in at the Hult’s Soreng theater. They have, in fact, built on the momentum of that prestigious honor by presenting numerous world premieres with fiery, genre-defying choreography and production value that have captured our hearts and earned rave reviews from The Register Guard to The Washington Post.

With powerful momentum comes powerful growth. BFan has expanded the number of performances at the Hult, and just finished an overwhelmingly successful audition circuit to add to the company roster. In order to sustain equal pay for the current as well as new company dancers, we’re hosting a Pay Equity Kickstarter campaign! As a board member, I can say we are so excited about the fact that we able to raise the living wage for the hardworking artists, and we need YOUR help to celebrate with us and spread the word about the campaign! Nancy and I are proud to host this fun and festive event at our home, with hors d'oeuvres by Sheild Catering. You will also be the first to watch BFan's new Kickstarter video, filmed in collaboration with Bronson Studios.  BFan has applied (and are applying for more!) grants to fund growth and sustain the pay equity program for the next fiscal year and beyond. They’re bringing new dancers into the community—and while those dancers are supported with grants and other fundraisers throughout the year—BFan needs your help to raise the funds to start paying these new dancers an equal wage today.

We invite you to attend a FEMALE ARTIST PAY EQUITY fundraising event on Sunday, May 6th from 2-4:00 pm, where we will help to build Ballet Fantastique's fund to achieve sustainable salaries and pay equity for the dancers who give so much to our enjoyment of the arts (and spend time with the dancers themselves!).

Please RSVP to me at svrobinson@comcast.net.  We hope that you can come, but if you can’t make it, please consider a donation anyway.  This fund will be used only to achieve pay equity for Ballet Fantastique's incredible female dancers!

Thanks for helping,

Steve Robinson
