Professional Dancer Development Summer Program

THREE WEEKS: JULY 9-27, 2018
EUGENE, OR USA

"Ballet Fantastique not only dances outside the box
...they throw the box away."

—Gwen Curran, The Register-Guard

In today’s world, we believe that it is no longer enough to be “simply” a dance company in the mold of generations of dance companies gone before. Instead, Ballet Fantastique believes that companies must be powerfully energetic and versatile—committed to building new audiences for the arts—just as they are profoundly invested—committed to working together to do what it takes to bring world-class art into being. And so, we are artistically bold and unapologetically tenacious, carving new niches for our art and building passionate new audiences for dance in the process. Case in point: We just produced three full-length contemporary ballet world premieres in a row, and we sold out the last 11.

THIS IS: THREE WEEKS TO CHANGE YOU AS A DANCER. A unique, immersive project designed for professional dancers. Train with, under, and alongside current Ballet Fantastique professional artists, visiting international professional guest artists, and Ballet Fantastique resident Choreographer-Producers Donna Marisa and Hannah Bontrager on Ballet Fantastique's gorgeous studio campus in downtown Eugene, OR.

Weeks 1-2: Explore Ballet Fantastique's inimitable brand of bold new contemporary dance theater. Hone fierce artistry, nuanced musicality in a diverse range of musical styles, and powerful technical and choreographic mastery with a small, elite cohort of like-minded peers.

Week 3: Take Ballet Fantastique Company Class and learn regular Company repertoire as part of the Company's first week of work (our wild west ballet version of Shakespeare's As You Like It, most recently performed in Italy) under Assistant to the Artistic Director Jessica Jaye Mackinson and Ballet Fantastique Artistic Director Donna Marisa Bontrager.

The Professional Dancer Development Program serves as an integral part of both the audition and the on-boarding process for Ballet Fantastique Company and Apprentice positions and new dancers. Select dancers may be invited to stay for three additional weeks of work with the Company (by invitation only) as part of 18-19 Season Apprentice and/or Company contracts with Ballet Fantastique.

WE WANT: We want to find and grow dancers with: Technical prowess, artistic talent, strength, a great work ethic and sense of humor, and an insatiable appetite for what’s next (because sometimes, even we don't know and the art just has a mind of its own).

YOU WANT: You decided that you don't need to be one of 50 people fighting to get noticed. You want to: Bolster your fearless sense of artistic play and choreographic versatility and inspire the confidence to explore new levels of artistic and technical bravura. You want to grow alongside other working international professional artists who care, a lot. You want to make new professional connections, see if Ballet Fantastique is a good fit for you, and break the mold with us as you work to achieve the next level of your professional goals.
