We seek artists with top-notch technicality, individual artistic voice (but great team spirit), a fabulous work ethic, a strong sense of humor, a lot of personality, and an insatiable appetite for what's next. We seek new company members eager to grow as we grow, contributing to and accelerating the success of the organization we share.

STYLISTIC + TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Competitive applicants will demonstrate fierce technical proficiency in both classical and contemporary vocabularies, powerful artistry, impeccable musicality in diverse musical vocabularies, and commanding, nuanced acting and stage presence in both drama and comedy. The “contemporary” in our mission statement reflects our original work and storytelling. Vaganova training and strong partnering experience is a plus.

Male dancer applicants: Preferably 5’9” or taller
Female dancer applicants: Preferably 5'2"-5'7" // strong pointe work

Additional skills of interest (desired but not requisite): Choreography, arts education, arts administration, dance instruction (ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, pas de deux).

ARTIST POSITIONS:

Company Artists: Competitive 30-35 wk contract commensurate with experience // live music // touring // benefits
Apprentices: 30-35 wk contract commensurate with experience // live music // touring as invited // additional training + coaching benefits
Fellowship Apprentices: Fellowship positions are open to a maximum of 5 exceptional dancers ages 18+ each season.

Please note we are currently unable to provide work visas for student dancers and have a very limited number of visas available for our main company positions, only when positions are unable to be filled by US or US Permanent Resident (Green Card) artists.


VIRTUAL AUDITION PROCESS

WHAT DO DO FIRST

  1. Complete the Ballet Fantastique Audition Pre-Registration Form (link below). Please note that your $20 Audition Review Fee helps us cover the costs of senior Ballet Fantastique artistic staff time to review and discuss your individual audition materials; we personally review each candidate, read what you share with us, and discuss your strengths and potential fit for our company.

2. After completing the Pre-Registration Form, email company(at)balletfantastique(dot)org with:

  • EMAIL SUBJECT LINE: Audition [Name]

  • Completed Ballet Fantastique Audition Form *Fillable PDF; different from the Pre-Registration Form

  • Cover letter (What are your goals? Why do you want to dance with us? Where are you in your dance career?) OR online link to a brief personal video (feel free to talk to us instead :)

  • Résumé/CV with minimum of three references, including contact information

  • Online link to your video demo reel, classwork (barre/center; women should also include pointe).
    Video reel should also include 2 variations (classical + contemporary). Choreographic samples are welcome if available.
    Please show your best work and range of strengths. NOTE: Because we are a ballet theater company performing narratives from playful to tragic, we love to see your dramatic prowess, range, and stage presence.

  • Headshot + one or more full body dance photo(s)

IMMERSIVE AUDITION

by invitation only

AUDITION Process FOR FINALISTS

FOR FINALISTS BY INVITATION
Finalists may be invited to attend an Immersive Audition in Eugene. A time will be mutually scheduled with you.

  1. We'll contact you regarding your status as a contract finalist.

  2. A piece of original Ballet Fantastique repertoire will be personally selected for you (~1-3 minutes) to show your ability to work within our range of unique work. We will email you a choreography video link.

  3. If we have not already, we will speak directly with each of your professional references.

  4. We’ll schedule a Zoom interview with you!

  5. You may be additionally invited to an immersive online or (preferred) in-person audition class at Ballet Fantastique’s Dance Center in downtown Eugene. This experience may include taking a BFan company or apprentice class, understudying a rehearsal for a current project, and rehearsing your assigned BFan choreography with the artistic staff, during which we will coach you in the variation to see your working style. We'll work with you to schedule your immersive experience with us.
