Cleopatra VII—a luminous Hellenistic queen in an Egyptian kingdom in a Roman world, juggling personae to shock, awe, love, rule, and endure—inspires Ballet Fantastique’s defiant and spellbinding new contemporary ballet premiere, set to the Levantine modern electronic sound of blockbuster musicians Sidecar Tommy and Eenor Wildeboar from Beats Antique, playing live at the Hult Center for the first time. Choreographer-Producers Donna Marisa and Hannah Bontrager weave a lavish and intoxicating world filled with dangerous romance and fierce political intrigue: Great rivals from worlds of privilege collide and Cleopatra—scholar, mother, ruler-goddess, bold architect-visionary of a unified Egypt—plays war and romance, politics and power, love and jealousy, alliance and misalliance.
