Be Our Guest: Dr. Mossberg's Lecture on "Beauty and the Beast"

You’re invited behind the scenes of BFan’s upcoming "Beauty & the Beast," to enjoy this brief pre-concert lecture from our incredible Dr. Barbara Mossberg (University of Oregon) for context on the Beauty & the Beast fairytale and what it means to tell this story—at this time.

“Why do we go to ballet? Why do we think beauty matters? As long as humans have breathed, we have catapulted and lifted ourselves, imagining ourselves in the heroic embrace of a spinning universe, and immersed ourselves in glory, in the depiction of story, which we cannot live without. What in this ancient story of Beauty and the Beast is life and death? Because it is.”

So says Professor Mossberg, aka our own "Dr. B," stirring our hearts and minds. For over forty years, Dr. B has connected the power of story in her own work as professor, puppeteer, poet, actor, playwrite, radio host, scholar, and educational leader, to what can not only save us, but make us want to live. Dr. B has done pre-show lectures at such prestigious locations as Off-Broadway 59E59, and the Cherry (Carmel, CA) and Oxford Playhouse. We are so honored to host her for Ballet Fantastique's next dance theater fairytale twist!

To hear this lecture in person, join us this Friday, March 4th, at 6:30pm in the Hult Center’s Soreng Theater for the perfect introduction to our opening night of Ballet Fantastique’s Beauty & the Beast!
